#130: 5 Myths About Selling An Evergreen Course

Listen Now!

Hello, and welcome to Beyond the Book – The Podcast. I’m your host, Jodi Vetterl, and today, we’re talking about why your book can—and should—be more than just pages in print.

If you’ve ever thought about writing a book, you’ve likely envisioned it as a finished product, sitting on shelves or in the hands of readers. But what if your book could be so much more? What if it could be the starting point for a platform that allows you to create courses, coaching programs, podcasts, or even memberships?

Today, I’m sharing how your book can become the cornerstone of your purpose, your platform, and ultimately, your legacy. We’ll also talk about my 4P framework—Purpose, Paper, Profit, and Platform—and how it can guide you from idea to impact.

Let’s dive in.

Your Book Is Just the Beginning

Many authors focus solely on writing their book, which is understandable—it’s a big achievement. But here’s the thing: your book doesn’t have to be the final destination. It can be the starting point for something much bigger.

When I wrote my book, Beyond the Banks, I didn’t just see it as a collection of chapters. I saw it as a way to share my purpose, help others, and build a sustainable platform that would allow me to continue growing, serving, and making an impact.

The 4P Framework

Let me walk you through the 4P framework, which is the foundation for my Beyond the Book method. This framework not only helps you write and publish your book but also turns it into a launchpad for something much greater.

1. Purpose

It all starts with your “why.” Why are you writing this book? What impact do you want to create? Your purpose isn’t just about you—it’s about the people you’re serving. It’s about aligning your passion with their needs.

When you write with purpose, you’re laying the groundwork for a message that resonates far beyond the pages of your book.

2. Paper

This is where you take your purpose and put it into words. You craft a book that tells a story, solves a problem, or inspires action. But here’s the key: you’re not just writing for the sake of writing. You’re structuring your book in a way that creates opportunities for monetization and growth.

From sponsorships to collaborations, your book becomes a tool for building relationships and expanding your reach.

3. Profit

Most authors overlook this step. They think profit only comes from book sales, but that’s far from the truth. With the right strategy, you can monetize your book before it’s even published.

I raised $91K in sponsorships before my book launched, which gave me the freedom to create without financial stress. By aligning your book with sponsors and collaborators who share your vision, you can fund your publishing journey and build momentum before you even hit “publish.”

4. Platform

This is where it all comes together. Your book becomes the foundation for a platform that allows you to expand your reach and amplify your message.

Think about creating:

Courses to teach your expertise.

Coaching programs to help others achieve their goals.

Podcasts to share your ideas and connect with a broader audience.

Memberships to build a community around your work.

The possibilities are endless.

Fulfillment Through Purpose and Legacy

When you build a platform around your book, you’re not just creating products—you’re creating impact. You’re fulfilling your purpose and leaving a legacy. And it’s not just about you.

By collaborating with sponsors and partners, you’re helping them grow alongside you. They become thought leaders in their own right, and together, you create exponential value.

Real-Life Examples

Let me share a few examples of how this works in practice:

Misti, a pro motorbike racer, took the strategies from my program to create a sponsorship package and raised $15K immediately after the course. She’s now building a platform that inspires and educates the ride faster and safer and building out a legacy around one of her biggest passions in life.

Tam, an author, publisher and owner of a VA agency, uses her sponsorship to help Women Boss Up and thrive as entrepreneurs. She’s building a legacy for herself and others.

Marti, an amazing creator who has suffered a lifetime of chronic pain & disability, she’s building a legacy for herself so that her loved ones can remember her being joyful & artistic rather than a chronic pain sufferer, and she’s helping many others who suffer physically and mentally to find joy in life despite their physicalities.

These women didn’t just publish books—they built platforms that expanded their reach, grew their businesses, and fulfilled their purposes.

Your Book as a Launchpad

So, why limit your book to being just pages in print? Think of it as a launchpad—a way to take your purpose, your passion, and your message to a much larger audience.

With my 4P framework, you can:

Clarify your purpose and align your book with your vision.
